FARIBAULT, MINN. - Shattuck-St. Mary’s Boys U18DA soccer team fell 3-2 in a close contest with Minneapolis City, one of the top men’s clubs in Minnesota, on Saturday.
Minneapolis City quickly controlled the pace of the game, creating most of the early chances as well as the first goal in the 34th minute. Down 1-0 heading into the second half, the Sabres returned to the pitch with more energy. In the 65th minute, Michael Vang ‘18 scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Carlos Soto Merchan ‘17 to tie things up. A quick answer by Minneapolis United, however, put SSM at a one-goal deficit once again.
A quick change in formation by the Sabres resulted in an immediate goal as Logan Sullivan ‘18 scored from close range after a scramble in front of the goal. The 2-2 tie stood until the closing seconds when Minneapolis City found their striker on the counter attack for the game-winning goal.
The Sabres will continue their homestand this weekend on Saturday and Sunday as they take on St. Louis Scott Gallagher - Metro and St. Louis Scott Gallagher - Missouri.
