CHICAGO, ILL. - Embarking on one of their last road trips for the season, the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Boys U17DA soccer team headed to the Chicago area to take on the Chicago Fire and Indiana Fire this past weekend.
The Chicago Fire held true to their name in the Sabres first contest on Saturday as they ignited their offense for a 3-0 victory over SSM. SSM came back with a fire of their own on Sunday, however, as they took the field against the Indiana Fire.
Brandon Cobb ‘19 broke open the scoring for the Sabres in the 13th minute with a long distance shot that the Fire goalkeeper was not able to handle. Fifteen minutes later, Logan Haustein ‘19 played a pass back to Gavin Pankey ‘19 who was inside the 18 to give SSM a 2-0 lead. Pankey scored again just minutes later to give the team a comfortable 3-0 lead.
A three-goal surge by the Fire in the early part of the second half saw the Sabres lead vanish, but only for a short minute. Erick Villatoro ‘20 scored twice before the final buzzer to give SSM a 5-3 victory over the Indiana Fire and a split on the weekend.
The Sabres will return to Faribault for their final home games this weekend against the Crew Wolves and Vardar.
