Boys U17DA Top Minnesota Thunder Academy

FARIBAULT, MINN. - Blue skies and long-awaited spring temperatures made the perfect backdrop for a rivalry game against the Shattuck-St. Mary’s Boys U17DA soccer team and Minnesota Thunder Academy on Saturday.

A silent first half brought added energy to the second half as both teams were eager to put a score up on the board. In the 51st minute, Sean Knoblauch ‘19 played a through ball into the path of Nehemias Rubio ‘20 who hit a blast from 25 yards out that zipped past MTA’s goalkeeper to put SSM up 1-0.

Four minutes later, Wylie Trujillo ‘20 overhit a through pass to Kupa’a Fernandez '19. The MTA goalkeeper came out to collect it, but high pressure from Fernandez forced him into a mistake, missing the ball. Fernandez took a touch forward and tapped it into the open net for a 2-0 lead which stood until the final buzzer.

The Sabres will return to DA action on May 12th in Chicago as they take on the Chicago Fire and Indiana Fire.
