WAUKEGAN, IL - The Shattuck-St. Mary's Boys U15DA soccer team took to the road over the weekend and concluded their Development Academy regular season on a winning note, bringing their final conference record to an impressive 11-7-2.
SSM took the field on Saturday afternoon against FC United and produced a strong performance under some interesting circumstances with their only rostered goalkeeper, Mitch Budler '21, at national team camp along with a short bench of remaining field players. Alvaro Jacinto '21 stepped up and filled in at goalkeeper, delivering an outstanding performance for the team.
FC United struck first in the middle of the first half putting the Sabres down 1-0. Jacinto subsequently made a key save tipping a hard shot over the bar and a goal by Matthew Roou '21 towards the end of the half produced a 1-1 halftime score. The Sabres took the lead for good midway through the second half on a goal by Chris Lee '21 and finished off the game strong to capture the 2-1 win.
The Sabres will now prepare for the end of season U.S. Soccer Development Academy Showcase in San Diego and travel there in a couple weeks looking to extend their current three-game win streak.
