FARIBAULT, MINN. - The Shattuck-St. Mary’s Boys U15 soccer team took to their home turf for the first time this season for contests against Indiana Fire Academy and Chicago Fire Soccer Academy over the weekend in Faribault, Minn.
Indiana opened the scoring in the seventh minute of Saturday’s contest. Matthew Van Horn ’23 quickly responded with a goal in the 11th minute to make things even. Van Horn gave SSM the lead in the 40th minute to put the Sabres up 2-1 going into the half. Indiana answered back in the 68th minute to tie the game once again. In a back and forth contest, it was Van Horn yet again with the game-winning goal in the 80th minute to give the Sabres the 3-2 win on the day.
On Sunday, SSM encountered a lively Chicago Fire team. The Sabres put together a strong first half, with the game fairly even between both two sides. Chicago Fire ultimately went ahead on a penalty kick in the 62nd minute and put the game ahead for good with a goal in the 80th minute for a final score of 2-0.
The Sabres will return to action on Sunday, October 14th against Minnesota United FC in Blaine, Minn. at 10:00 a.m.
