CHICAGO, IL – Strong goaltending and a productive offense combined for a year-ending sweep for the Shattuck-St. Mary’s boys prep team this past weekend in a two game series against the Chicago Mission in Chicago, Illinois.
SSM got on the board early in Friday’s game with a goal from Niko Esposito ’17 in the 1st period. Mission would score twice in the 2nd, only to be answered by the Sabres on both. Jeremy Davidson ’18 and Grisha Gotavets ’18 added goals in the 3rd for a final score of 5-2.
Though Saturday’s game stayed scoreless until the 2nd, Esposito once again started the scoring for the Sabres. Bobby Trivigno ’17, Andy Stoneman ’18, and Davidson added goals in the 2nd as well. Another quiet period in the 3rd gave SSM the 4-1 victory.
Goaltender Vince Shonka ’17 stopped 23 of 25 shots in Friday’s game and 19 of 20 on Saturday bringing his record for the year to 13-2-4.
The Sabres resume play on Saturday, January 7 as they take on Mission at Shattuck-St. Mary’s.
